How To Do Cape Town Plumbers’ Registration?

** Sections 14 and 47 of the Water By-Law aim to reduce water wastage arising from sub-standard plumbing installations and leaks;

** to protect the buyer from latent defects and high bills;

** and to eliminate cross-connections between sewer and storm water systems so as to prevent ingress and potential health risks.
** Non-compliance to by-laws is an offence and is dealt with as stipulated in the Water By-law.

How do qualified plumbers register with City of Cape Town?

All plumbers who already have a permanent City plumbing licence must :
** Provide a copy of such licence
** Provide a certified copy of their ID
** If self-employed, provide the name and other details of the business
** If working for an employer, provide details of such company
** Provide contact details, e.g. phone numbers, fax numbers and where applicable, an email address

All plumbers who qualified after the promulgation of the City’s by-law on 1 September 2006, when the licencing process ceased, and would therefore not have been issued with a plumber’s licence by the City, must :
** Provide a certified copy of their plumber’s trade test certificate
** Provide a certified copy of their ID
** If self-employed, provide the name and other details of the business

** If working for an employer, provide details of such company
** Provide contact details, e.g. phone numbers, fax numbers and where applicable, an email address
** The above-mentioned documentation must be emailed to CertificateOfCompliance AT capetown.gov.za.
** Queries can be directed to the same email address.

How To Apply For Certificate of Compliance?

** The City of Cape Town has gazetted a new property sales by-law that requires a Certificate of Compliance of Water Installation.

** The owner of a property must submit a fully completed CoC to CertificateOfCompliance AT capetown.gov.za.
** This applies to domestic, commercial and industrial properties, and includes sectional title units.
** Please note that the City’s logo may not be used on the Certificate of Compliance.

(Plumbing) requirements :
Our plumber’s checklist entails verifying (for example) that :
** The hot water cylinder installation complies with SANS 10252 and SANS 10254
** The water meter registers when a tap is open and stops completely when no water is drawn.
** If there is movement on the meter with taps closed, it points to a defect somewhere on the property

** None of the terminal water fittings leak and are correctly fixed in position
** No storm water is discharged into the sewerage system
** There is no cross connection between the potable supply and any grey water or groundwater system which may be installed
** The water pipes in the plumbing installation are properly saddled (fixed)

    Spent an entire day at CoCT last week to register as a plumber, no one can help you. In fact not to register, my licence no I have been using for many years, has been given to someone else and now I have to re-register. Someone said they see if your an old person, they think you either retired or passed on, then they sell you licence no to someone else. A lot of incompetent staff in most workplaces nowadays
