New Water Connections :
The basic new connection process is as follows :
** Complete a new connection form, making sure that you complete each field, e.g. business partner number.

** Hand this to an enquiry clerk at one of the City’s cash offices
** A sales order will be created on your account/invoice and you will see the amount reflected on your account/invoice
Staying connected :
** If you do not pay your account, we have the right to disconnect you.
** If you are a domestic consumer, we have the right to have your water flow restricted using a water management device.
** A water demand management device is an electronic device that restricts your consumption to 10.5kl per month.
** This allocation is provided free of charge as part of the 6kl free basic water and 4.5 kl indigent grant.
** The device is programmed to release 350 litres of water per day from 4:00 in the morning.
** Once this allocation is used up, the water management device will stop releasing water and will reset the next morning to provide another allocation of 350 litres for the day.
** Any amount of the daily allocation not used is carried over to the next day and accumulates.
** Any domestic consumer can also apply for a water demand management device to be installed.
** This is a good way of managing your consumption.
Water Management Device :
** Consumers who reconnect illegally, after having been disconnected or flow-restricted for non-payment, forfeit their right to the free monthly basic water allocation of six kilolitres until the outstanding debt has been paid in full.
** The user is then responsible for paying disconnection and reconnection charges.
** All non-domestic consumers will only be reconnected after debt recovery processes have been followed.
Moving house :
** Before a property is transferred to a new owner, the seller must submit a certificate an accredited plumber certifying that
** there are no plumbing defects
** the water meter is working
** there is no stormwater discharge (e.g. rain water from gutters and drainpipes) into the sewer system.
** there are no cross connections between drinking water and any grey water, recycled water or ground water systems
** the water installation conforms to the national building regulations and local by-laws
** View our brochure for new homeowners.
