FAQ On GDE Admissions Placement Period

The Placement Period for Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners for the 2021 Academic Year will commence on 1 October 2020 and close on 30 November 2020.

1. How long will it take to get a response on the progress of my application?
Applicants will be notified via SMS regarding the outcome of the application during the Placement Period from 1 October 2020

2. When will Parents receive notification of successful /unsuccessful applications?
Parents will receive offers of placement from 1 October 2020 to 30 November 2020

3. How many days does an applicant have to respond to an offer of placement
Applicants need to respond within 7 school days after receiving an offer of placement. If the applicant does not respond within 7 days, they offer of placement will be forfeited and given to the next applicant on the Waiting List

4. Must a parent accept the first offer from a school?
No parents can wait for other offers and accept the offer at the school of their choice

5. Can the applicant delete a confirmed offer of placement in one school to accept another offer in another school?
Parents can wait for the offers from different schools and can provisional accept the first offer. Once an offer of placement is confirmed, all other applications are deactivated

6. Will applicants who have applied and submitted only some documents or have not submitted any documents at school be allowed to submit?
Parents who have not submitted documents will be notified of a date to submit within 7 days

7. What can the parent do if the school requested additional documents upfront from parents like registration fee, payslip / proof of employment, etc before processing the application?
Parents must submit proof to the District Office that they submitted documents to the school. Parent can also inform the District office of these schools

8. What will happen if my application is unsuccessful at all the schools I have applied to?
The District will facilitate placement in a school where there is space available

9. What will happen if the schools that I have applied for are full?
The District will facilitate placement in a school where there is space available

10. Does the Online Application guarantee placement of the child at a school?
** An Online Application does not a guarantee placement at any particular school.
** Placement is based on applicants meeting admission criteria and the capacity of the Grade to admit
** Home address will get priority and if there is still space available the school will place using the other criteria

11. Will I be informed if the school does not take my child?
Schools inform successful parents and if a parent does not get any notification the parents can go to the district to find out

12. I cannot find the current school, it is not on the list
Select the school nearest to the current school

13. Can online applications of parents from other provinces who are applying in Gauteng be processed?
** Yes. The application can be processed nationally and internationally.
** Placement is based on applicants meeting admission criteria

14. I have relocated to another area before placement. How do I get placement based on my new address?
Applicants must inform the relevant District and submit proof of relocation (new residential address) as well as proof of residence at the address used during the application

15. What can the applicant do if they are not satisfied with the outcome of the application at a School?
The parent can lodge an Objection within 7 days of receiving the outcome of the application by completing an Objection form (Annexure D) at the District Office – Parents must know that school place according to the Admission criteria and does not mean that if a parent object the child will be placed at the school.

16. What can the applicant do if they are not satisfied with the outcome of the Objection?
The parent can lodge an Appeal within 7 days of receiving the outcome of the Objection by completing an Appeal Form (Annexure E) at the District Office

17. What documents are required to lodge an Appeal
A checklist of documents required to lodge an Appeal is obtainable from the District Office or Head Office.

Late Applications

Late Applications will be announced after all applicants who applied during the application period are placed.

1. This year, your work is worse to horrible, having to send application online on the 13 September till 10 December still my grade 1 is not placed, really don’t understand what you do in the offices, so pissed right now as we have to make up and down for space.

2. I applied for 4 schools which are Riviera, Laerskool Eendracht, Brooklyn Primary and Waterkloof primary but, then I am working in Waterkloof next to Waterkloof primary and Brooklyn Primary. I was offered a space at Riviera and Laerskool Eendracht. My problem is that, who will look after my daughter while I am at work because, there is no one at my Apartment.

    need to apply for a child whose Mom and younger brother are in critical condition because of the burns sustained last week,they were residing in Mpumalanga now the child needs to relocate to JHB for school,she’s in grade 8
