South African Cultural Observatory Researcher :
** The South African Cultural Observatory, hosted by Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University is the new public research entity of the Department of Arts & Culture.

** The Observatory works to professionalise the cultural field by promoting research development and has been established to develop and support the collection and analysis of evidence, influence policy, share insight and build intellectual capacity across the arts, culture and heritage sectors.
The Role :
** The Associate Researcher position is an important one for the South African Cultural Observatory, given the centrality of generating leading-edge research;
** ensuring professional processing and publication of research; and the need for dissemination of the research and events of the Observatory.
** The position will report directly to the CEO who will ensure that due mentoring and personal growth opportunities are in place.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following :
** Assist in the writing and editing and updating of material for the Cultural Observatory website.
** Assist with the supportive research work for the development of a Cultural Statistical Framework.
** Collaborate in regard to the classification and cataloguing of industry relevant statistics.
** Participate in select survey research in regard to the cultural and creative industries.
** Collaborate with CEO and Research Director in working on selected joint research papers and articles.
** Assist with select research management work.
** Assist where relevant in the administration of conferences and workshops by the SA Cultural Observatory.
Minimum Requirements :
** Honours in Economics.
** Work experience in a research-oriented or internship position in a university, state or para-statal department or institution.
** Experience of the requirements of policy-related research.
Core Competencies :
** Proven ability to undertake independent research and produce research papers
** Quantitative and survey research skills
** Knowledge of economic modelling tools
** Good attention to detail; project management skills and the ability to work under pressure.
** Appropriate language and communication skills
** Good interpersonal and facilitation skills
** Evidence of leadership abilities
