Philip H Moore Music Competition :
** The Philip H Moore Music Competition comprises a First and Second Round and a Final Round in the form of a Gala event.

** The purpose of this booklet is to inform contestants of the Rules applicable to this prestigious event.
** This booklet should provide all the information necessary to enable any potential contestant to enter this Competition with ease.
** The onus rests on the teachers that the Rules have been read and understood thoroughly.

Category F DVD Audition Entries close: Wednesday 15 March 2017
Entries Categories A – E close: Friday 21 April 2017
Round one commences: from Tuesday 25 July 2017
Round two: Monday 14 August 2017
Finals / Gala event: Saturday 26 August 2017: The Brooklyn Theatre, Pretoria (to be confirmed).
Category F Rules :
Category F has been split into two sections :
** Audition Round by way of DVD.
** Second Round – Live Performance at Jeppe High School for Girls, Kensington, Johannesburg.

** Strings (specify instrument on entry form)
** Woodwind (specify instrument on entry form)

How do I enter the Competition :
** All Contestants are required to submit two copies of a DVD of a balanced program which is to be an uninterrupted performance of 10 minutes in total duration.
** The DVD is to be recorded no earlier than January 2017.
What must accompany the DVD?
** A signed Affidavit must accompany the DVD (See Annex “A”) which states that the performance is an uninterrupted performance of the Contestant
** A certified copy of the Contestant’s ID or Birth Certificate.
** Entry Form duly completed in full – preferably typed.
** One copy of the music.

How are we contacted?
All communications will be done by way of e-mail so please ensure that we have your correct and current e-mail address at all times. In the event of an e-mail bouncing, we will endeavour to contact you via your cell phone number which must also be correct and current. It is up to the Contestant to ensure that the Executive Committee of this competition have all current and functioning email addresses and phone numbers.
1. Rules For Round One :
1.1 Contestants must perform according to the information given in table below.

E | 17 – 18 years | THREE contrasting pieces – not to exceed 15 minutes in total |

1.2 Round One will be held from Tuesday the 25 July 2017 and will take place on specified afternoons, evenings and/or Saturdays
1.3 Contestants will be informed of the exact date and time of their performance. Contestants will only be allowed to perform during their allocated times.
1.4 All contestants must arrive at the Jeppe High School for Girls hall at least 15 minutes before their allocated time.
1.5 The performance of each contestant WILL BE TIMED. Contestants will be disqualified if they exceed their time allocation as given in the table above.
1.6 Contestants are expected to stay until the end of their session (which is approximately one hour in duration). Certificates and adjudication reports will be presented at the end of each session in Round One.
2. Rules For Round Two :
2.1 Contestants must perform according to the information given in table below.

F | 19 – 25 years | Balanced program, no less than 25 minutes, no longer than 35 minutes in total
For Voice Only: Balanced program, no less than 20 minutes, no longer than 30 minutes in total |
2.2 Round Two will be held on Monday 14 August 2017. A new appointment slip will be e-mailed to all successful contestants advising them of the date and time of their performance.Contestants MUST be available to compete on this date in order to qualify for the Gala event (the final round).
2.3 Please re-read sections 1.3 – 1.9 above as they apply for Round Two as well.
2.4 Contestants must perform AT LEAST ONE NEW WORK.The second work can be a repeat of a work from Round One, or another new work.
2.5 On the day of their performance, contestants must supply, in writing, their intended program for the Gala event, irrespective of whether they qualify or not. The full title of the work (including opus numbers etc), composer and accompanist’s name, where applicable, must be clearly visible.
3. Rules For Gala Event (FINAL ROUND)
3.1 Contestants must perform according to the information given in table below.

3.2 Should any finalist be unable to compete at the Gala event, he/she will be disqualified and no prize money will be awarded to the non-participating contestant. This rule is not negotiable. If possible, the Executive Committee will choose a substitute in his/her place. Contestants must inform the Executive Committee timeously if they are unable to attend.Contestants may choose to play work/s that were performed in the preliminary rounds or may choose to perform new work/s.
3.3 No photocopies of the music will be required at the Gala event. However, originals must be made available should SAMRO arrive and request same.
3.4 Prize Structure :
Gift vouchers sponsored by Lovemore Music may be awarded. Details to be advised.
