Apply For a Learner’s Licence :
** In order to qualify to apply for a driver’s licence, you must have obtained your learner’s licence.
** This licence qualifies you to operate a vehicle with a licenced driver present.

** You can get either a code 2 licence, which will allow you to drive light vehicles, or a code 3 licence, which will allow you to drive heavy vehicles.
How to apply for a learner’s licence :
Please note :
** You can get a learner’s licence for a motorcycle over 125 CCs, car, minibus, small goods vehicle or for a larger vehicle if you are older than 17 years of age.
** You can get a learner’s licence for a 50 CC to 125 CC motor cycle if you are 16 years or older.
** Before you can write your learner’s test, you will have to book an appointment.
Step 1 :
** Visit your local drivers and learners licence testing centres.
Step 2 :
** There you can submit your application, which will include the Application for Learner’s Licence form, which will be provided by the testing centre.
Your application must include :
** your ID document
** 2 black and white ID sized photos
** the appropriate application fee
Step 3 :
** Once you have submitted your full application and paid the fee, you will be given an appointment date which is generated by the E-natis System (computerised) to write your test. All the necessary information will be available on your appointment sheet, which is given to you to confirm your appointment.
Please note :
You can only cancel this date if you are :
** sick (you will need to provide a medical certificate)
** attending a funeral (you will need to provide a death certificate)
** writing exams (you will have to provide a timetable)
** Your payment will not be refunded if you cancel your booking.
** Please ensure you alert the testing centre you were going to write your test at that you will not be making your appointment, in order to prevent a backlog.
Taking the learner’s licence test :
** When it comes time to take your test, make sure you are ready and well-prepared.

** your ID document
** your appointment sheet, which gives the details of your appointment
Step 2 :
** When you have completed and passed your test, you will need to pay R33 to have the learner’s licence issued to you.
