What is Emfuleni Local Municipality Mayoral Bursary?

The Executive Mayor of Emfuleni Local Municipality Cllr Sipho Radebe is hereby inviting all Grade 12 learners within the Emfuleni Municipal area who wish to pursue their studies at any University and other institutions of higher learning, to apply for the Mayoral Bursary for 2025 academic year. Families which are registered on indigent database categories will be given 1st preference.Closing Date is 30th November 2024.

Eligibility of Emfuleni Local Municipality Mayoral Bursary

1. Applicants must have passed Grade 12 with a minimum of a 60% average and going onto their first year of study at a tertiary institution.
2. The applicants must be residents within Emfuleni Local Municipality.
3. Priority will be given to those learners coming from disadvantaged family backgrounds. Families which are registered on indigent database categories will be given 1st preference.
4. Joint income for the parents/guardian or household of the applicant should not exceed R350 000 per annum.
5. Preferred fields of studies

6. Full-time undergraduate, artisan training and post graduate bursaries from approved institutions will be awarded annually as per below listed study fields:
** Commerce
** Law
** Technical Skills e.g. Electrical, Civil /Chemical Engineering etc.
** Human and Social Sciences
** Science and Technology
** Any other scares and Critical Skills as informed by the ELM needs

7. Preference will be given to enrolment to local institution of higher learning followed by Potchefstroom, Mahikeng and Gauteng institutions.
8. Testimonial letter from high school where the applicant matriculated.
9. Applicants must also have proof of admission into an institution of higher learning.
10. Preferred fields of study will be available on the website, or contact the municipality in respect of the fields of study

Benefits of Emfuleni Local Municipality Mayoral Bursary

** The bursary covers, Registration Fees, Tuition Fees, Laptop and Books.
** Accommodation and food payment for only selected students.
** Students who have approval from other funders / bursaries shall not be considered.
** Students who change the approved program of study after resumption of studies shall forfeit their bursary and we will reserve our rights to demand refund of our bursary from the institution concerned.
