What is Knysna Rotary Bursary?

The Rotary Club of Knysna offers assistance for tertiary education to local Knysna residents for undergraduate studies only. Application forms for the 2025 academic year may be downloaded from the Knysna Rotary website. Bursaries were awarded to 10 students for studies in 2024. Applications for bursaries for the 2025 academic year close on 15th November 2024.

Eligibility of Knysna Rotary Bursary

1. Student must have resided in Knysna area for a minimum of 5 years.
2. Student must show evidence of academic potential with a minimum overall average of 50%.
3. Student must show other source of funding.
4. Student must be an undergraduate.
5. Student must be aware that this is not a full bursary.
6. Student attends a comprehensive interview.

Qualifications being studied include:
** Engineering
** Teaching
** Nursing and caring
** Medicine
** Media and communication
** Business management
** Law
** Nature conservation
** Marketing
** Social work
** Journalism
** Architect drawing
** Accounting
** Ambulance training
** Firefighting

A candidate is more likely to be successful if he/she:
** Has a clear idea of what the course entails.
** Has some idea of what they intend doing after studying.
** Shows evidence of hard work at school – good marks.
** Shows evidence of leadership/involvement at school or in the community (sports participation, interact, prefect etc.).
** Has the communication skills to answer interviewer’s questions.
** Has some understanding that success depends on sacrificing pleasure some of the time.
** Has other source of funding.
** Has investigated accommodation and travel options.
** Has plans to have a holiday job during holidays.
** Has knowledge of the Rotary International organisation.
** Has knowledge of SA events (current affairs).
** Has adequate financial support from parents.

Once a student has been selected for a bursary, they need to supply the following:
1. Matric results, if they have just completed matric.
2. End of tertiary year results.
3. Proof of registration from the institution where they are going to study.
4. Student number.
5. Banking details for the institution.

How To Apply For Knysna Rotary Bursary?

Application form to be fully completed. If not fully completed, application will not be considered. Photocopy of applicant’s Identity Document to be attached to the application. Passport photo of applicant to be attached in the space provided

Bursaries were awarded to 10 students for studies in 2024. Two were re-applications from last year, and 8 were new students. We have 3 students studying various phases of education, 2 studying social work, 2 studying law, 1 studying psychology, 1 information science, and 1 fire fighting.

The bursary is awarded for one year only and the student will need to apply again by completing an application if they are going to continue studying. We encourage the students to help with various Rotary fund-raising projects if and when they are available to promote volunteering.
