What is LegalWise Member Bursary?

LegalWise believes in achieving excellence through people and aims to provide them with the opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge required to reach their full potential. Our Member Bursary Programme assists students with financial and mentorship support to enable them to acquire the education to pursue a career in fields where LegalWise has a need to recruit. Applications open on the 1st of August each year and all applications must be submitted to helenf [at] legalwise.co.za by close of business on the 30th of September of the same year. Late submissions will not be considered.

Who Can Apply For LegalWise Member Bursary?

** The applicant/ parent must be a fully paid up LegalWise Member for at least two years prior to applying for a bursary and must continue to be a Member for the duration of the bursary.
** Degrees which qualify are LLB; BCOM (Law); BA (Law); BCOM (Accounting); BCOM (Human Resource Management); BA (Human Resource Management); BCOM (Management); BSc (Industrial Psychology); BSc/ BCom (Informatics); BIS (Information Science).
** Bursaries are only awarded to students who are already studying fulltime towards one of the undergraduate degrees listed above at an approved public university.
** Bursaries are only offered from the second year of study onwards.
** Applicants currently completing their first year of study may apply for a bursary in the second semester for their second year of study.
** Bursaries are only allocated for the year following the one in which the application was received.
** Bursaries are not awarded for part-time, correspondence or distance learning studies.
** The applicant must have achieved at least a “C” aggregate (60%) academically in their previous year of studies at tertiary level.
** The applicant should be able to speak, read and write English and at least one other official language.

How To Apply For LegalWise Member Bursary?

** Applications must be submitted to helenf [at] legalwise.co.za
** Only fully completed applications with all the required supporting documentation will be considered.
** Shortlisted applicants will be required to visit their closest LegalWise Service Centre for an interview.
** LegalWise reserves the right to accept or decline applications at its discretion and in accordance with its own internal decision-making process.

Documents Required For LegalWise Member Bursary

Supporting Documentation which MUST be included with the Bursary Application Form
** A copy of your final Matric results
** An academic transcript from your tertiary institution, including the results from all of your previous examination cycles.
** A copy of your latest student account from the University reflecting all transactions.
** A motivation / essay giving details about yourself and why you should be selected as a LegalWise Bursary Holder. Please limit your essay to 750 words.
** Your Parent, Legal Guardian or friend may also write a letter of recommendation for you.
** Proof of income* for both your Parent(s), Legal Guardian or Spouse (e.g. *payslip, letter from employer, proof of SASSA grants, sworn affidavit or tax return statement not older than 3 months).
** A certified copy of your South African ID (applicant) and certified copies of the IDs of your Parent(s) or legally appointed Guardian
** Proof that you are the biological or adopted child of a LegalWise Member or under the legal guardianship of a LegalWise Member (birth certificate of the child of principal Member, marriage certificate, copy of Membership card, court order granting guardianship) or a LegalWise Member yourself.
** Proof of registration from the University that you are currently studying towards one of the approved degrees previously listed.

What is the Last Date of LegalWise Member Bursary?

Applications of LegalWise Member Bursary open on the 1st of August each year and close of business on the 30th of September of the same year. Late submissions will not be considered.
