Nurse Mentor QI/UTT :
Main Purpose of the Job :
** To support DoH mop-up NIMART activities in facilities, ART initiation, same day initiations and cervical screening where applicable
Related / Similar Service :
Health Systems Trust Research Nurse
** Support AC nurses draw bloods from AC members on a scheduled basis and equip health care providers with the clinical knowledge, skills and attitudes to improve competence and confidence in the provision of quality care.
** To assist NIMART club nurse in order to improve patient clinical outcomes.
** To build capacity of AC facilitators to manage or refer unfamiliar or complicated cases appropriately
Roles :
** Leaders of the UTT teams where applicable, effective communication with colleagues, FPD team members, AC facilitator. ENs, Counsellors and Club NIMART nurse, other clinic staff and patients
** NIMART initiations to fast-track eligible patients in the NDOH Test and Treat initiative
** Supporting NIMART club nurses with the drawing of bloods on a scheduled basis and maintain well-defined performance standards, which are set according to National and/or provincial clinical practice guidelines
** Determining if performance standards are being met
** Identifying barriers preventing achievement of standards and making recommendations to address them
** Implementing interventions to improve performance and quality, SIMS
** Providing effective feedback to the NIMART club nurse, medical mentors and other FPD team members
** Disseminating clinical practice guidelines and information to enhance patient outcomes where required
** Conducting routine monitoring and evaluation of AC Facilitator, counsellor, EN.
Essential Qualifications and experience :
** NIMART trained
** B.Cur, Diploma in Nursing Science or eqv.
** Minimum of six months clinical experience and proficiency in HAST
** SANC registration
Advantageous Qualifications :
** PHC trained
** Mentoring certificate
Competencies :
** Must have in depth technical knowledge and skills related to, health promotion, prevention, treatment care and support of HIV/AIDS, STI’s and TB related diseases
** Technical skills related to phlebotomy, Cervical screening (where applicable) and ART initiations
** Familiarity with and ability to use clinical standards and guidelines e.g. the South African HIV and TB Treatment guidelines, Mother and Child Health guidelines, to teach and assess technical skills
** Must adhere to clinical standards, guidelines, and required documentation
** Must have excellent mentoring skills to supervise and mentor AC facilitators, health care providers especially other nurses, counsellors
** Ability to organize and control resources
** Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with facility staff including provision of constructive, timely, and interactive feedback where required
** Ability to gather, analyze information, write reports and do presentations
** Must be aware of the district healthcare system, including management structures, functioning of clinical teams, policies, and appropriate lines of communication
** Should have good facilitation skills
** Should be able assist with clinical audits, SIMS assessments and pay attention to detail as well as be proactive
** Capacity and desire to motivate AC facilitators and counsellors to perform well
** Ability to maintain good employee relations
** Promote the organizational culture of a learning organization
** Ability to address mediate and mitigate conflict situations
** Ability to timeously identify and manage risks, serious adverse events
** Must display strong networking and excellent people management skills
** Proficiency in written and verbal communication is essential
** Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point, Lotus Notes and/ or MS Outlook
** Should foster innovation and creativity
