Staff Password Recovery:
If you’re an University employee who has forgotten the password for your Rhodes account, you may be able to set yourself a new password using this page.
Once you enter your employee number below, we will send you a special one-time password via SMS to the cellphone number Human Resources has recorded in your employee record. This one-time password is then valid for 24 hours and will let you change your normal Rhodes password.
If you’d like to reset your password, please enter your employee number (not your username) below to start the process. Note that the one-time password that you get sent can only be used to change your password. You’ll need to change your password before you’re able to log into your e-mail, the Internet or other services.
Of course, if the cellphone number HR has is wrong, this won’t work… If this is the case you’ll need to visit the IT Help Desk with some form of picture ID (staff card, ID book, passport, etc) before you can change your password. Note that the cell phone data we have can be up to two weeks out of date, so recent changes might not be available. Please contact your HR Generalist or use Sage 300 People to update the cellphone number.

Research Ethics Overview
At Rhodes University, the ethical conduct of research is a high priority. Ethical research is promoted as part of research training and supervision, in Higher Degrees review processes, short courses for staff and students, and engagements with national experts.
In addition, Rhodes has adopted the Department of Health’s research Principals, Processes and Structures (DoH, 2015) accredited by the National Health Research Ethics Council (NHREC).
There are three committees at Rhodes to provide ethical clearance for research by students and staff:
** the Animal Research Ethics Committee;
** the Education Faculty’s Research Ethics Committee for studies conducted in the Education Faculty,
** the Human Research Ethics Committee for all other studies involving human participants.
Each of the RECs has an online application system on ERAS and applicants should make sure they apply through the right form. For overall deliberations on and support for research ethics, the Rhodes University Research Ethics Forum (RUREF) meets four times a year.
All these committees are under the auspices of the Research Office. Within the Research Office, an Ethics Coordinator is available to manage the system and support applicants. RUREF in turn supports the coordinator and RECs on strategic matters.
RUREF is currently revising the Rhodes Research Ethics Policy for Research involving Humans. The revised version will be available here as soon as it has been adopted. For queries please contact the RUREF Chair, Prof. Eureta Rosenberg or the interim Research Ethics Coordinator Ms Danielle de Vos.
