Job Summary

The position of the Executive: Weather and Climate Services reports to the Chief Executive Officer.
The position is tasked with the responsibility and accountability to oversee the effective management and functioning of service delivery responsibilities of SAWS for both the Public and Commercial clients as mandated by the SAWS Act.

Requirements

** Minimum MSc, MEng or related postgraduate degree
** MBA or MBL will be an added advantage
** Minimum of 10 years’ management experience within a scientific or related entity with demonstrable general management experience
** Services industry experience will be an added benefit

Key Performance Areas

** Provide leadership and develop strategic programs and systems for the achievement of the organizational strategic objectives including requirements for and optimal use of High Performance Computing capability

** Introduce a smart and efficient integrated operating model, as well as adopt and apply technology to improve operational best practice and service delivery

** The strategic management and directing of the provision of weather and climate products and services
to various sectors of the South African economy and the general public

** Driving Innovation through Research and Development in Weather and Climate including Air Quality related research

** Provide scientific and business leadership to develop and grow SAWS product and services offerings to extend SAWS reach to in all sectors of the economy and to the entire South African population.

** To ensure best practice compliance and sustainability of business development policies and strategies

** Collaborate with relevant national, regional and international organisations to maximise the beneficial impact of the SAWS’s weather and climate service programs and activities
** Represent South Africa at relevant World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), ICAO, IMO and other international coordinating bodies as appropriate

** evelop strategies that will ensure scientific modernisation and innovation in weather forecasting and climate prediction techniques and systems
** Strategically provide leadership on the component of the National Forecaster Centre, national marine and national general forecast products and services.
