DAFF #YAFF Awards Competition
** The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries invites stakeholders in the sector to nominate young top producers either in agriculture, forestry or fisheries to enter for the 2018 #Youth in Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Awards Competition.

Entry Requirements & Terms & Conditions
1. Entry Requirements :
1.1 Competition entrants must be involved in agriculture, forestry and fisheries activities for two (2) years on a full-time basis.
1.2 Entrants must be between 18 to 35 years of age, and from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.
1.3 Only South African youth are allowed to enter the competition.
1.4 Government employees are not allowed to enter the competition.
1.5 The enterprise must be registered in the entrant’s name; however in the event of the enterprise/entity including older people, young people should be in majority by 51% and the entrant must prove their ownership and/or involvement in the management and decision-making aspects of the entity.
1.6 The Executive Authority’s decision is final.
2. Terms And Conditions
2.1 Entries of the competition should be submitted to the Department of Agriculture, forestry and fisheries using the online facility. No entries received after the deadline dates will be accepted.
2.2 DAFF reserves the right to change, without prior or any notice other than on the departmental website, the dates, requirements, adjudication process, criteria, categories and any other programme feature and processes where operational circumstances require such change.
2.3 Entrants of the competition must allow DAFF and adjudicators to have access to all relevant documents for verification purposes, as well as agree to be interviewed as part of the adjudication process.
2.4 The short-listed entrants of the competition must be willing to allow DAFF to: take video footages of their Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries activities in support of the information provided; and co-operate as far as reasonably possible with DAFF pertaining to the provision and verification of information and site visits. Failure to cooperate will result in withdrawal from competition. The entrant must furthermore be willing to participate in all media-related activities arranged by DAFF.
2.5 Past winners of categories cannot re-enter the competition in the same categories.
2.6 The past winners of the DAFF Female Entrepreneur Awards are prohibited from entering for the #YAFF Awards.
2.7 Non-disclosure of current and detrimental information pertaining to the business enterprise or the entrant that will affect the adjudication process will lead to disqualification of the entrant from the competition, and should this emerge post awarding, it will lead to withdrawal of the prize.
2.8 Awarded cash prizes shall only be paid into the business bank accounts of the entities which are being entered for the competition, and not in the bank accounts of the individuals.The entrant shall provide proof of the entity bank account.
2.9 Registration on the National Treasury Central Supplier Database is compulsory for winners, and proof thereof should be submitted for processing of payments.
2.10 All competition prizes are final and non-negotiable.

Categories
1. Agriculture Awards :
The entrant should be involved in the cultivation of horticultural or field crops and / or the rearing livestock or poultry to produce meat, wool or other products
Smallholder :
** For the purposes of this competition, this category refers to a farmer that produces for household consumption and markets and primarily strives to earn revenue from his/her business as a source of income for the family
Commercial :
** For the purposes of this competition, this category refers to a farmer whose production is primarily for the market and makes considerable living from farming
2. Forestry Awards
** The entrant should be involved in primary production, agro-forestry related activities or in the commercialization of non-timber forest products (NTFPs)
Small-scale :
** For the purposes of this competition, this category refers to a person (s) that produces to meet basic livelihood needs and primarily strive to earn revenue from their businesses as a source of income for the family
Large-Scale :
** For the purposes of this competition, this category refres a person(s) whose production is primarily for the market and makes considerable living from the business.
3. Fisheries Awards
** The entrant should be involved in either aquaculture or small scale commercial fisheries.
Small-scale :
** For the purposes of this competition, this category refers to a person (s) that fishes to meet his/her food and basic livelihood needs, or are directly involved in harvesting, processing or marketing of fish, traditionally operate on or near shore fishing grounds, predominantly employ traditional low technology or passive fishing gear, usually undertake single day fishing trips, and are engaged in the sale or barter.
Large-Scale :
** For the purposes of this competition, this category refers to a person (s) who is directly involved in harvesting, processing or marketing of fish, traditionally operate on or near shore fishing grounds, employing advanced technology, and fish primarily for the market and make considerable living from farming.
