SAIPA National Accounting Olympiad
** The aim of the National Accounting Olympiad is to make Accounting as a subject a preferred choice to all students, and to expose the option of professional accountancy as a career opportunity to aspiring young accounting learners in Grade 11 & 12 countrywide.

** The 2017 Accounting Olympiad was a huge success. The participation of sponsors exceeded our expectations and the winners excelled on many levels, walking away with valuable prizes.
** In 2018 the competition will generate Provincial and National winners ending in a Glamorous Gala Awards Evening.
How does work?
1. Teachers must identify Grade 11 & 12 Accounting learners who wish to follow a B.COM as a CAREER CHOICE.
2. The entry fee for the competition is R50 per learner. There is no limit on the number of entries per school. The maximum entry fee payable is R2 000.(Please send a motivation letter if your school is unable to pay).
3. The National Accounting Olympiad will consist of a First Round and a Final Round.
4. The First round will be held on 16 May 2018 with a written exam from 14h00 – 16h00 at the learners’ schools.
5. All learners that write will receive a prticiapation certificate
6. All learners who qualify to proceed to the final round will be notified
7. The Final Round will be written on 1 August 2018 from 14h00 – 16h00 at the learners’ schools.
8. The Final Round will determine the Provincial and National winners.

** Teachers and/or Invilgilators must abide by the SAIPA Code of Conduct for the NAO competition.

** Calculators are permissible in both rounds
** No oral examination will take place
** Candidates will write the Accounting Olympiad in English or Afrikaans

Note :
** It is the teacher’s responsibility to ensure that entry forms are submitted and received by the organisers on time. Closing date for entries: Wednesday 25 April 2018. No late entries will be accepted.
Code of Conduct & Ethics for Teachers/Invigilators
** Teachers/Invigilators to report to the examination venue at least 30 minutes before the commencement of the examination.
** Candidates are to be admitted to the examination venue and to be seated at least 15 minutes before commencement of the examination.
** Teachers/Invigilators to ensure that all candidates have received their examination question papers and answer booklets before the commencement of the examination at the time scheduled.
** Teachers/Invigilators to ensure all scripts are collected once the examination has been written – no candidate is to be allowed to leave the venue with his/ her script.
** No candidates are permitted to enter the examination venue, after 1 hour from the commencement of the examination.
** No candidate may leave the examination venue during the last 15 minutes of the examination.
** Candidates who leave the venue and intend returning to continue writing, are to be accompanied by an invigilator whilst outside the examination venue.
** When there are queries from the candidates, relating to the exam, Teachers/Invigilators are under no circumstances allowed to render any explanation pertaining to the answer to the candidates.
** If a candidate requires assistance from the Teacher/Invigilator, he/ she is to raise their hand. If this is not observed, the candidate is to stand up.
** Candidates are only to have possession of their stationery, calculators, the examination paper and answer sheet whilst in the examination venue. All bags, books & other articles are to be left outside of the examination venue.
** The use of cellular telephones is strictly prohibited during the course of the examination.
** The use of audio devices (such as MP3 players/ iPods) are strictly prohibited during the course of the examination.
** Teachers/Invigilators are to check that all material relating to an examination are removed from the walls and chalkboard of the classroom prior to the exam.
** Candidates are to be seated at least 1 metre apart.
** Teachers/Invigilators are to ensure all examination paper deliveries are free from tampering in any way, and delivered sealed and clearly marked. Any evidence of prior tampering is to immediately be brought to the Institute’s attention.
** Teachers/Invigilators are to break the seal containing the examination papers in the presence of the candidates in the examination venue.
