What is WROSA World Robot Olympiad?
** The World Robot Olympiad™ is a global robotics competition for young people. It is an astounding event for children to develop and strengthen critical and creative thinking and social skills. These skills are essential prerequisites for success in further studies and future careers.

** There are four provincial competitions, one event each in Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Western Cape, and two in Gauteng. All competitor teams are ranked nationally, from this ranking list the top 10 to 15 teams are invited to attend and compete in the National event in Gauteng. Teams winning their category might be invited to represent South Africa at the WRO international event.
How It Works?
** World Robot Olympiad™ (WRO) is an event incorporatring science, technology, education and robotics which brings together young people from all over the world to develop their creativity and problem solving skills through challenging and educational robotics competitions.
** There are four provincial competitions, one event each in Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Western Cape, and two in Gauteng. All competitor teams are ranked nationally, and from this ranking list the top 10 to 15 teams are invited to attend and compete in the National event in Gauteng. Teams winning their category stand a chance to be invited to represent South Africa at the WRO international event.

How To Enter?
Solve The Puzzle, The Robotic Way :
The competition consists of five different categories for four age groups :
Regular Category
** Teams must assemble robots that can solve a specific problem. The fastest robot around the course that completes all the tasks successfully will be the winner.
Open Category
** Teams must present designs for robots, based on a theme. There will be four judging categories and the team with the most points will be the winner.
Football Category
** Two teams each with two autonomous robots play a football (soccer) match. 10 minutes a side and the team scoring the most goals is the winner.
Explorer Category
** Teams can arrive with a pre-built robot chassis, but no attachments. Teams can log a maximum of 4 scores and the highest score will be the winner.
Advanced Robotics Category
** An engineering challenge for college and university students to build robots that can score as many points as possible in a robot version of the Tetris® game called TETRASTACK.
Age Groups
WeDo Category :
** Participants up to 10 years old in the year of the competition
Elementary School Age :
** Participants 10 -12 years old in the year of competition.
Junior High School Age :
** Participants 13 – 15 years old in the year of competition.
Senior High School Age :
** Participants 16 – 19 years old in the year of competition.
WRO Football Age :
** Participants 10 – 19 years old in the year of competition.
Advanced Robotics Challenge :
** Participants 17 – 25 years old in the year of the competition.
WRO Thailand 2018 :
** In November, selected teams from all over the world will travel to Chiang Mai in the northern part of Thailand.
** The WRO 2018 International Final is organized by Gammaco, in cooperation with several ministries and other organizations.
** This year’s WRO theme is Food Matters, it focusses on the way we grow, share and consume food.
** Thailand, officially the Kingdom of Thailand, is a country at the centre of the Indochinese peninsula in Southeast Asia. The official language of Thailand is Thai, it is written in the Thai alphabet.
** Education in Thailand is provided by a well-organized school system. Education is compulsory for children up to age 15 and free to age 17. The focus on education has driven the literacy rate for younger people to 98% (2015).
** The elephant is Thailand’s national symbol. Domesticated elephants have played a great role in Thailand in the past. Unfortunately, they also have been hunted by poachers.
** Thailand is one of the world’s largest producers of rice, with Thai Jasmine Rice being the most famous. Thai cuisine has become famous worldwide with its use of fresh herbs and spices. It blends the five fundamental tastes: sweet, spicy, sour, bitter, and salty to a colourful and tasteful mix.
** Thailand’s climate is influenced by monsoon winds that have a seasonal character (the southwest and northeast monsoon). The northeast monsoon, starting from October until February brings colder and dryer air from China over most of Thailand.
** Thailand’s attractions include diving, sandy beaches, hundreds of tropical islands, nightlife, archaeological sites, museums, hill tribes, flora and bird life, palaces, Buddhist temples and several World Heritage sites.
