MEXT Scholarships for 2018 :
Programme outline :
** The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) offers scholarships to foreign students who wish to study at Japanese universities under the Japanese Government Scholarship Program for 2018.

Degree level :
** Research students (master’s course, doctoral course, or professional graduate course) Undergraduate students .

Fields of Study :
1. Research students : (master’s course, doctoral course, or professional graduate course)
** Applicants should apply for the field of study they majored in at university or its related field.
** Moreover, the fields of study must be subjects which applicants will be able to study and research in graduate courses at Japanese universities.
2. Undergraduate students :
** Those who wish to study in Japan as an undergraduate student must choose a field of study (major) from (1) or (2) below.
** Applicants may enter a first, second, and third choice.
(1) Social Sciences and Humanities :
1-A: Law, Politics, Pedagogy, Sociology, Literature, History, Japanese language, others.
1-B: Economics, Business Administration.
(2) Natural Sciences :
2-A: Science (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry), Electric and Electronic Studies (Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Information Engineering), Mechanical Studies (Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture), Civil Engineering and Architecture (Civil Engineering, Architecture, Environmental Engineering), Chemical Studies (Applied Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Textile Engineering), other fields (Metallurgical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Maritime Engineering, Biotechnology).
2-B: Agricultural studies (Agriculture, Agricultural Chemistry, Agricultural Engineering, Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Forestry, Food Science, Fisheries), Hygienic studies (Pharmacy, Hygienics, Nursing), and Science (Biology). Natural Sciences 2-C: Medicine, and Dentistry.
What the Scholarship offers :
** It covers round-trip airfare, tuition and monthly allowance.

Application Procedure :
** Embassy Recommendation (Application through Japanese embassies) Recruiting covers all scholarship categories.
** However, because recruiting targets will differ by country and region, potential applicants should check closely with the Japanese embassy in their own specific country or region.
** The initial screening is comprised of a document inspection, a written test and an interview.
** The local Japanese embassies conduct their screening on the basis of these test results, and then make their recommendations to MEXT.
** MEXT confers with the selection committee, deliberates with the host schools, and then makes its final selections.
** While candidates may express their preferences for specific schools of study, the final decision will be made by MEXT.
** For further details, candidates should contact the Japanese embassy in their own specific country or region.
Application through Japanese Universities :
** University Recommendation (selection of new applicants before they arrive in Japan)
** Based on the university exchange agreement, Japanese universities conduct their examinations of the international student candidates, with recommendations made to MEXT as research students or Japanese studies students.
** MEXT confers with the selection committee, and then makes its selections. For further details, candidates should contact their current school of enrollment.
