Gates Cambridge Scholarship :
** The Gates Cambridge Scholarship programme was established in October 2000 by a donation of US$210m from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to the University of Cambridge; this is the largest ever single donation to a UK university.

You can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship if you are :
** a citizen of any country outside the United Kingdom
applying to pursue one of the following full-time residential courses of study at the University of Cambridge :
** PhD (three year research-only degree)
** MSc or MLitt (two year research-only degree)
** One year postgraduate course (e.g. MPhil, LLM, MASt, Diploma, MBA etc.)
** You can use the form below to quickly check if you are eligible to apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship and, if so, in which of the two application rounds you must apply.

Current student at Cambridge?
** If you are currently studying at Cambridge and wish to apply for a new postgraduate course you can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship.
** For example, if you are currently studying for an MPhil you can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship to pursue a PhD.
** Current Gates Cambridge Scholars may also apply for a second scholarship if they are applying for a new degree.
** All current Cambridge students will be considered in the International (second) round.
** However, if you have already started a course you cannot apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship to fund the remainder of it.
Courses which are NOT eligible for Gates Cambridge Scholarships :
** BA (undergraduate)
** BA affiliated (a second BA)
** MBBChir Clinical Studies
** MD Doctor of Medicine degree (6 years, part-time)
** Part-time degrees
** Non-degree courses
Deadlines :
** Deadlines for October 2017 entry: 12 October 2016 (US round) and 7 December 2016 (International round). Check which one applies to you.
The two application rounds :
Round 1: US citizens normally resident in the USA
Round 2: citizens of all countries other than the USA (except the United Kingdom) and US citizens normally resident outside the USA
We advise that you begin your application as early as possible and do not wait until the deadline :
** You must submit your application no later than midday (UK time) on the dates given. Gates Cambridge cannot guarantee that applications submitted after the deadlines will be considered.
** You must supply all supporting documents (transcripts and anything else required by the department) within 7 days of submitting your application.
** You must supply references (two academic, one personal) within 7 days of submitting your application.
** If English is not your first language you will need to submit evidence of your competence in English – this is not required at the point of application but will be a condition of any subsequent offer.
