How To Apply For Admission in UCT?

Applications have opened at 12:00 SAST on 1 April 2025. The closing date for applications for undergraduate study at UCT in 2026 is 31 July 2025. We will not consider applications received after this date.

For applicants who would like more information before submitting an application, there is an annual UCT Open Day aimed at high school learners in Grades 10, 11 and 12, their families and teachers. This year UCT Open Day will be from 10:00 to 15:00 on Saturday, 12 April 2025.

Current learners at school must make sure that all examination results from Grade 11 until September of Grade 12 are submitted. Failure to submit these results may result in delays. Transferring students should submit all transcripts and academic records as early as possible.

Documents must be submitted as certified electronic copies to admissions@uct.ac.za. Please do not send your submissions to any other email address/es as this will only delay the processing of your application.

Application Fees For UCT Admission

An application fee must be paid for every application. UCT students and graduates, as well as Semester Study Abroad (SSA) applicants, are exempt from the application fee unless applying to a Graduate School of Business (GSB) programme.

Eligibility For UCT Admission

The admission requirements differ depending on what you want to study. The criteria for certificate courses, diplomas and degrees is listed below:

Undergraduate Certificate Study:
To confirm eligibility for admission to undergraduate certificate study, applicants must consult the Admissions Office or the faculty concerned.

Undergraduate Diploma Study:
The minimum requirement for admission to undergraduate diploma study is a National Senior Certificate (NSC) as certified by Umalusi with an achievement rating of 3 (Moderate Achievement, 40-49%) or better in 4 recognised NSC 20-credit subjects.

Bachelor’s Degree Study:
To be eligible for admission to degree study, applicants need to meet minimum requirements for eligibility:
** Applicants holding a South African National Senior Certificate (NSC) need to pass a minimum of 4 subjects at a rating of 4 (Adequate Achievement, 50-59%) or better in any four 20-credit NSC subjects.
** Applicants holding a South African Senior Certificate need matriculation endorsement.
** Applicants holding non-South African school-leaving certificates must qualify for a matriculation exemption certificate. For more information please visit the website of the Matriculation Board.
