Grade R Applications

Parents can apply Online from 1 – 16 August 2024.

Parents | Guardians MUST upload the following certified supporting documents:
1. Immunisation card (Road to Health Chart) [Primary Schools Only]
2. ID | Birth certificate | passport of the learner; OR
** A study permit (foreign learners); OR
** Proof of application (study permit) or a police affidavit
3. Proof of residence

School admissions:
** Apply to at least 3 schools (Including the ones closest to your home)
** Indicate your order of preference on the system

Learner Transfers Request

Transfer requests for Grades 2-7 and Grades 9-12 must be done via the school you wish to transfer to, and not online.

Steps:
** Use this form to submit school transfer requests for learners already attending school in Grades 2-7 and Grades 9-12.
** Transfer applications are to be done at the relevant school in which the parent/caregiver wishes to apply to or their nearest WCED office.
** Parents or caregivers will be required to fill out the WCED application form, which can also be downloaded from the WCED website, but can only be submitted to schools or the district office from 1 August 2024 onwards.

They will also be required to submit in the relevant supporting documentation:
** The last school report card;
** ID, birth certificate, passport, study permit or proof of application or police affidavit; and
** Proof of address or police affidavit.

Parents can drop off the application form and supporting documents directly at the school. They can also contact the school for details on electronic (e-mail) submissions on the official WCED form only.

How do I get my child enrolled in a school of my choice? Some points to consider.
** Apply early. Don’t wait till the last day.
** Parents should apply to at least three schools (including their nearest school).
** Know the law/check the school’s Admission Policy.
** Schools may NOT use their own hard copy, online forms or systems, or request any additional information from parents not in line with the South African Schools Act, the Admission Policy for Ordinary Public Schools or POPI Act.

What is the admission age for Grade 1?
** Compulsory school-going age is seven years in the year that the child is in Grade 1.
** Admission to Grade R is six years in the year that the child is in Grade R.

What documents are required to register a child at a public school?
** Immunisation card. (Primary School only).
** Last school report card for learners who have been to school.
** ID: birth certificate, passport, study permit or proof of application or police affidavit.

The WCED has not declared any feeder zones/areas.

How do I appeal against a school’s decision not to enrol my child?
Appeals open for Grade 1 and 8 applications on 1 August 2024, and for the remaining grades, including Grade R, on 1 October 2024.
