What is Education Empowerment and Development Fund?

The Education Empowerment and Development Fund (EEDF) is proud to offer a comprehensive bursary program designed to empower and support aspiring students in pursuing their higher education dreams. The closing date for bursary applications is 1 November 2023.

Eligibility Criteria of EEDF Bursary

To be eligible for the Education Empowerment and Development Fund (EEDF) bursary program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
** South African citizen or permanent resident.
** First or final year of study for 2024 Academic year.
** Household annual combined income under R600k.
** Age range: 18 to 25 years

Students must be accepted, enrolled or provisionally accepted at the following institutions:
** University of Johannesburg
** Witwatersrand University
** North West University
** University of Pretoria

Supporting Documents For EEDF Bursary

Applicants should submit the following documents along with their Empowerment and Development Fund (EEDF) bursary application:
** Certified Copy of ID document
** Matric/Grade 12 certificate
** Academic record from tertiary institution (if currently enrolled at tertiary)
** Proof of tertiary acceptance
** Proof of household income (latest payslip or affidavit if unemployed)
** Proof of residence (utility bill or rental agreement)
** Proof of disability (if applicable)

Expenses Covered By EEDF Bursary

The Missing Middle:
Students falling within the R350k-R600k bracket will receive full support, covering registration costs, tuition fees, accommodation, study materials (Laptop allowance (only for 1st year students), tutoring, mentorship, meal assistance, and mental health support.

NSFAS Eligible Students:
Those who meet the NSFAS eligibility criteria (below R350k) will receive assistance with registration costs and benefit from our comprehensive non- financial support, including mentorship, mental health support, and academic guidance. As part of our commitment to nurturing future leaders, bursary recipients are required to fulfil a volunteer service in form mentorship. Upon successful completion of their studies, recipients will contribute back to the community by providing mentorship.
