What is Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships?

The New Zealand Government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), is offering full tertiary scholarships to eligible international students from developing countries to study full time at a New Zealand education institution or university in 2024.

The purpose of a Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship is to invest in the education of citizens from developing countries, enabling them to positively impact on their country’s development by sharing new skills and knowledge gained while on scholarship. The application deadline is 28th February 2023.

Fields of Study :
Sectors and subjects for eligible students from Africa:
** Food Security and Agriculture;
** Renewable Energy; and
** Good Governance

Degree Level :
Master’s level study is preferred. A maximum of 10% of scholarships awarded each year will be for PhD studies

Who Can Apply For Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships?

You must complete the eligibility questionnaire before you can apply for a Scholarship. Complete the Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships online Eligibility Test (force.com)

Applicants Must:
** Citizen from South Africa;
** Be at least 18 years old or older at the time of the start of the scholarship;
** Meet the academic entry requirements (including English language requirements) determined by each education institution;
** PhD scholarship applicants should look for and email suitable PhD supervisors at New Zealand universities;
** From the date of application, have lived in the country of citizenship for the last two years or more;
** Must contribute to their country’s social or economic development for at least two years after completing their scholarship study;
** Postgraduate scholarship applicants and applicants who finished high school more than 3 years ago, must have relevant work experience.
** Work experience can be paid, unpaid or voluntary, and must meet the following criteria:
** One year of full-time work experience (i.e. 30 hours or more per week), OR
** Two years of part-time work experience (i.e. up to 29 hours per week).
** Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate how their proposed course of study aligns with their current work experience.
