What is Open Window Scholarship Competition?
The Open Window Scholarships 2022 Competition is organised by Open Window for Grade 12 Learners. Entries must be submitted on or before 03 December 2021. The scholarship will be awarded for students registering for Degree and Certificate studies at The Open Window. Family members of Open Window staff cannot enter the competition.
There are four specialisation streams at The Open Window:
** Animation Arts
** Creative Technologies
** Film Arts
** Visual Communication
Who Can Enter?
** Only learners who are currently in Grade 12 are allowed to enter this competition. This competition is not open to currently registered students at The Open Window.
** Only learners that have completed the Provisional Registration for 2022 enrolment (meeting admission requirements) will be considered.
What To Enter?
** The Open Window is looking for a creative young leader in ‘Visual Storytelling’. Visual Storytelling is a skill that all four schools at The Open Window emphasise: Animation Arts, Creative Technologies, Film Arts and Visual Communication.
** We want you to create a series of 5 images or frames inspired by the theme of ‘A journey towards creativity.’
** You are encouraged to share a glimpse into your creative mind in the form of a short narrative (this could be a story about when you first encountered your creative superpower, for example).
** Harness your imagination and express your inner creativity through the power of imagination, creativity and storytelling.
** You can use any format, any approach, or any visual medium – as long as you can submit the story of your own creative journey digitally.
How To Enter in the Open Window Scholarship Competition?
** Register for the competition https://www.openwindow.co.za/scholarships-2022-competition-sm/79266/
** Complete the entry form upon registration.
** Upload your completed Visual Narrative (accepted formats include: MOV, MP4, JPG, PNG, PDF)
** Please ensure that your file size for entry does not exceed 20 MB.
** If your video file exceeds 20MB please upload your video to YouTube and supply us with the link in the allocated field.
Judging the Competition
** All entries are subject to a selection process, emphasising: concept, creative use of the medium, technique, and professionalism.
** Works will be judged individually based on concept, story, use of material, quality of craftsmanship and skill demonstrated.
** Scholarships will be awarded to individuals that show exceptional artistic talent and creative potential.
** The Open Window Academic Committee will form the judging panel.
Competition Rules
** Admission to The Open Window programmes will be based on our standard admission requirements per programme. The scholarship will only be viable for candidates that meet entry requirements.
** To ensure students are able to complete their academic journey with us, a Student Advisor will complete a financial consultation with prospective students before registration.
** Entries must be submitted on or before 03 December 2021. Artworks submitted after this deadline will not be considered.
** All artworks submitted must be the entrant’s own original work and must have been created in 2021, specifically for this competition (in direct response to the provided brief). Existing projects or school portfolios cannot be used.
** Entrants must include planning and evidence of work in progress as part of the final submission, in order to prove that the submission is their own work and to show their creative thought process. This evidence can include sketches, notes, or visual planning of any kind.
** This will serve as evidence that you have developed the project from the idea stage all the way to the final submission and will serve to help prove that no plagiarism has been committed.
** Plagiarised, illegible, incomplete, defaced or corrupt entries will not be considered.
** In order to be considered for a scholarship, all 5 frames in the visual narrative must be entered. For a film or animation piece (which has a limit of 30 seconds), this does not mean 5 scene changes, but rather 5 events/moments linked by cause and effect.
** Once a submission is received, you will not be able to modify it whatsoever.
** The Open Window has the right to report any artworks that condone hate speech and propaganda of violence against race, creed, gender or sexual orientation.
** Your artworks might be published on The Open Window’s website or social media platforms, as well as included on certain virtual exhibitions.
** No royalties will be paid for work submitted for the competition.
** The Open Window’s decision on all matters pertaining to the competition is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
** It is at the sole discretion of The Open Window to award scholarships.
** The scholarship shortlist will be published on The Open Window’s website on the 18 January.
** Shortlisted entrants for scholarships must be available for Skype/Google Meet/Zoom interviews between the 12 – 17th of January. The scholarship winners will be announced on The Open Window’s website in January 2022.
** Scholarships may NOT be exchanged for cash, are not transferable and are only valid for the year 2022 (towards the pursuit of full-time studies).
** Family members of Open Window staff cannot enter the competition.
