Applicants of the Special Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD R350 Grant) can change their method of payment for their money to be paid into a bank account.

The window to change payment method opens on 03 until 10 September 2021, while the other social grants are being paid. The post office does not pay the SRD grant during the normal social grant payments of the Old Age, Disability and children’s grants.
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) confirms the bank account method as the most convenient and quickest way to receive the grant, thereby avoiding queues at the post office.
FAQ On SASSA SRD Grant
1. What is the meaning of Pending status?
The application is in progress, when verification is completed, the applicant will receive a SMS notification of the outcome. Only those with status Approved will receive the SMS notification with a website link to submit bank details or to select a bank for cash transfer if unbanked.
2. If I applied in May 2020 and get approved, will I receive double payment in June 2020?
The Payment for May will be paid, and the application will be re-validated in June, and if the applicant still meets the criteria, the June payment will also be processed. These payment may not necessarily come in one lump-sum payment, or on the same day either.
3. Can I use another person’s account if I do not have a bank account neither a cell Phone?
Where an applicant does not have a bank account, he/she must indicate from the drop down list the nearest bank through which they want to be paid. Money will therefore be paid into the applicant’s cellphone number.
Where an applicant does not have a bank account and does not have a cell phone registered in his/her name, the payment will be made through the post office.
4. How are payments for this grant going to be done?
Payment shall be done through direct deposit into your own Bank Account or Through cash transfer option which goes to the cell phone and can be cashed at the bank ATM of your choice.
Applicants who do not have a bank account will be able to select a bank of their choice between the following 4 banks to receive a cash transfer payment

*FNB
*NEDBANK
*STANDARD BANK
Where no choice is made as to how to receive the payment, SASSA will send the payment through the Post Office. All asylum seekers and special permit holders will be paid through the post office, where a personal appearance, with the revant documents will be required to prove identity before payment is affected.
