About Indy 500
The Indianapolis 500 is one of the largest motor sport races in the world, often referred to as “the greatest spectacle in racing”. It is considered part of the Triple Crown of Motorsport, which comprises three of the most prestigious motorsports events in the world, including the Monaco Grand Prix and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It occurs over the famous Memorial Day Weekend and attracts crowds of over 300 000.
The original Indianapolis speedway was called “The Brickyard” as it was paved entirely with bricks. In fact, a yard of brickwork was incorporated into the new asphalt raceway as an ode to its historical origins.
