I purchased 8 large bags of cheasnaks at Kwikspar in the Old Farm Shopping Centre, Old Farm Road, Faerie Glen, Pretoria. After opening the first bag I tasted that it was old. I checked the expiry date of all the bags and noticed that all of them had expired (June and July 2021.)
When I returned the old stock to Kwikspar on 1 September 2021, they refused to refund me or replace the old stock with new stock as I did not have the purchase slip any more. Their service attendants are also unbearably rude and incompetent - even when this is brought to their attention management refuses to rectify the staff's unacceptable behaviour.
Bear in mind that most customers do not keep purchase slips for food bought at a food outlet – they keep slips for products that carry a one or two year warrantee. Customers essentially trust the food outlet and manufacturer to supply fresh products. Kwikspar said the stock could have been old upon receiving from the supplier but they cannot send it back without a slip.
I have to say that this Kwikspar’s stock is often expired – their products are not fresh and customers would rather throw the stock away than to spend time and effort to return it. Nowadays we cannot afford to throw food away any more. A shop should really stock products which have a longer expiry date than 2 months so as to allow customers to stock up at home. No one is taking responsibility for old products, not the supplier or the shop which leaves the customer with the loss. Not fair.
Kindly advise what can be done about the rude behaviour at Kwikspar and the old stock cheasnaks.
