How The Competition Will Work
** The competition will be held over 2 days of fishing (9 and 10 March 2018). Both days will start at 6:30 and end at 16:00.
** Kayak fishers will launch at Breede river Lodge. All kayakers need to check in between 05:00 and 6:30 and out between 16:00 and 16:30 at Lodge jetty or main beach for launching to sea.
**There will be a marshal placed with all names between that times. The person that can only fish the Saturday will not be penalized for losing out on the Fridays fishing. It will be kept as 2 different competitions. For the main prize only your best days score will be kept for main prize and not combined score. Main prize will be given on the discretion of the sponsor.
** Prize giving will be held at Pili Pili restaurant Saturday evening at 19:00 where there will be a dinner served. Please keep in mind for extra tickets if you bring family or friends with.
Participation & Eligibility
Participation is open to anyone 18 years of age or older. Minors are eligible to participate with a parent or legal guardian signature on the release form. A completed entry form and entry fee must be received no later than 17:00 on the 25 Feb 2018.
Registration
** Registration can be done before 25 Feb 2018, late registrations can be done on morning of both competitions between 5;00 and 6.00 at the Breede River Lodge Slipway. Late registration will have a penalty. Registration can be done via e-mail and all fees can be EFT to given account number. All entry fees are NON-TRANSFERABLE and NON-REFUNDABLE. With registration a copy of rules and regulation will be provided. Should the need arise for any questions prior to competition, then it can be asked by e-mail or telephonically.**
Safety :
Safe boating will be observed at all times. During competition each contestant is required to comply with SAKAF regulations. In addition, participants must wear a PFD at all times while competing in the event and be in possession of a sounding (whistle) device. A cell phone is also advisable.
Check In :
** Check in will be at 16.00 at Breede River Lodge ( Pili Pili) restaurant for both days. All competitors must check in their cameras and length card by the check in time to be eligible for fishing prizes. At check in you must indicate whether or not you are submitting your camera for review. No fish shall be scored without proof. Cables for camera for downloading pictures must be at hand.
Sportsmanship :
Competitors in Witsand Kayak Angling Competition events are expected to follow high standards of sportsmanship, courtesy, safety and conservation. Any infraction of these fundamental sporting principles may be deemed cause for disqualification.
Maximum courtesy must be practiced at all times, especially with regard to other anglers not participating in the event. Any act of a competitor, which reflects unfavourably upon fisheries conservation, clean waters, and courtesy, shall be reason for disqualification
. Evidence of chemical substance addiction or abuse, conviction of a felony or other crimes involving moral turpitude or other conduct reflecting unfavourably upon the Witsand Kayak Angling Competition efforts to promote safety, sportsmanship and compliance with competition rules shall be grounds for rejecting any application for participation and for disqualification.
Any act deemed by the Competition Director that gives an angler an unfair advantage not specifically covered under this set of rules shall be grounds for disqualification. Any violation by an angler deemed intentional or preconceived by the Competition Director to gain an unfair advantage, would be grounds for permanent disqualification.
Alcohol And Drugs :
** The consuming or transporting of any alcoholic beverages or drugs (other than prescription) during official competition hours, on any competing angler’s boat is prohibited, and angler or anglers will be disqualified from this and possibly all future competitions.
Permitted Fishing Methods :
** All fish must be caught with a fishing rod, photographed on the water or where kayak is on the water visible, and if released, alive in a conventional sporting manner. Anglers may not catch fish or weigh in fish that have been caged or confined in an area prior to the competition. All fish must be caught from a kayak (self-propelled water craft). During the hours of competition, contestants may not obtain or receive assistance, including but not limited to the following: a non-competitor’s boat, the placing of markers by a non-competitor, being towed by or riding on motorized vessels. Motorised vessels may only be used if a kayaker is injured or in danger.
Tackle And Equipment :
** Rods per kayak. Only 2 in water at any time. Bait or artificial lures may be used. If angler intend to fish for a SA record or IGFA world record, he/she must comply by the organisations standards. The competition is not affiliated at any of the above mentioned organisations. Be prepared to show your current fishing license if asked by competition officials or any law enforcement officer.
Communications :
** use of mobile communication devices such as cellular telephones, marine radios, walkie-talkies, CBs, pagers or any electronic device to communicate is highly recommended for safety. If Emergency calls must be made a competition official should be contacted also. (084 5111 097 )
No Motors :
** The use of a boat or motorized water vehicle to transport your boat on the water is prohibited. All craft must be self-propelled – no motors are allowed (electric or combustion).
Permitted Fishing Locations :
** All fishing locations within the Breede River will be from Sand point at mouth up river to Malgas. Kayakers going to sea must launch from main beach. Please make sure you know the boundaries of the De Hoop Nature reserve. If you are caught within its boundaries you will be disqualified immediately.
Scoring
** The event uses catch-photo-release and signed by other competitor system. Scoring determined by the length of each fish. The first photo on the camera must be of your rigged boat as put in at launch with length card visible.
Fish must be photographed in or on the boat with length card visible. More than one photo or video of a fish may be taken. Length is determined from the forward-most point of the fish to the pinched top of the tail with the fish’s mouth closed.
Fish must be above the governments minimums to count – fish may be above the slot limit. In the event of a tie the entry checked in earliest will be declared the winner. The Competition Director will review the photos to verify reported results and determine place winners. The Competition Director is responsible for the final call in all matters.
Digital Photography :
** Participants may only use digital cameras for recording scoring. Images may not be digitally altered or enhanced in any way. Anglers should shoot images at maximum resolution possible. Entrants must bring the memory card or camera to check-in. The tournament scorekeeper will download memory cards onto the official computer. The tournament scorekeeper will be able to read most standard memory cards, however anglers should bring a USB cable for their camera to ensure that their photos may be downloaded.**
Contingency Prizes
** Sponsors may at their discretion award contingency prizes for anglers winning or placing using their products.

Method Of Calculation :
** The points for each individual fish will be calculated by a unique length to weight conversion method where each species is scored on how remarkable within its own species it is. The combined points will be used for scoring the day winners. Total species do get recognised for day competition. Your best fish that scored most points will be used for main prizes.• Fish that will Count for Prizes
